SHARK ENERGY DRINK NEWQUAY FOOTBALL FESTIVAL FRIDAY 20TH - SUNDAY 22ND JUNE 2008 UKSE7ENS TOURNAMENT REPORT UKSE7ENS in association with SHARK ENERGY drink held their inaugural National Football Championships at Newquay Tretherras School between 21 st-22 nd June. 25 mens teams including 19 from up country took part in a gruelling qualification campaign to determine which of the two cup competitions, the Champions Cup or the Intermediate Cup, they would be fighting it out for while 6 ladies teams fought it out in a round robin league. The Mens qualifying saw 3 local teams top their groups with the pre-tournament favourites the Rowdies only drop points to the Hermosas from Portsmouth. Grampound based side Team Handsome topped group B while the Wet Bandits from Truro finished on top of group C. The side that had impressed everybody the most was the Flat Bed Tippers from Southampton who won group D winning all 6 qualifying games. The second day of the football festival saw the mens teams begin the knockout stages of both the Championship Cup and the Intermediate Cup. Newquay’s very own Central Garage who had just scraped into the Championship Cup, caused the upset of the tournament as they defied everything the Flat Bed Tippers could throw at them to run out shock 2-0 winners. |
